A moderately large bamboo native to rainforests to 1000 m from Taiwan and China to Myanmar with loosely clustering green culms to about 24 m tall and to 10 cm in diameter. It is easy in cultivation in all tropical climates, prefers heavy soils and can also tolerate some drought. The culms are used for construction and for manufacturing chopsticks and other goods and supply pulp for making paper. The young shoots are edible and one of the best species for canning.<\/p>\n
Sowing Advice<\/strong><\/p>\n The seeds can be started indoors at any time throughout the year. Press the cereal-like seeds onto moist cultivation soil, cover them thinly with the substratum and move the container in a warm spot. Given temperatures around 25\u00b0C and even moisture, the seeds germinate after 10 to 20 days.<\/p>\n Seeds sometimes germinate within 4 to 6 weeks although some varieties may take very much longer so please be patient.
