Description
Strelitzia juncea, the rush-leaved strelitzia or narrow-leaved bird of paradise. Like all Strelitzia, this unusual species comes from South Africa. In contrast to the other bird-of-paradise flowers, τhis drought-resistant Strelitzia does not form leaf blades, but bluish stalks or rush-like stalks that reach a diameter of 3-4 cm after a few years. The orange and blue-violet colored flower vessels then also drift out of them. Due to the almost round leaf stalks, the magnificent flowers come into their own even more. The plant is rhizome-forming and reaches a height of only 100-120 cm ? the ideal tub plant. Planted out for the summer, the rush Strelitzia is a real eye-catcher! In terms of cultivation and care, it is similar to the other species.
