Description

This Asian ornamental shrub grows up to 2.5 m tall bears its name – because the infinite number of flowers exude a very special and pleasant smelling fragrance. The easy-care and quite undemanding Leycesteria grows between 50-80 cm per year and is a real eye-catcher with the hanging, about 20 cm long spiked flowers, on which the many single flowers sit. The white flowers are surrounded by purple red shell and appear from July to September. In warm summers, red berry fruits are created, which later turn black. They are not toxic, but taste bitter and have a caramel flavour. The flowers are popular with insects and birds are attracted by the berries. The shrub has its origin in India, China, Nepal and the Himalayas.
