This winter hard small tree or shrub is about 2 meters high and forms showy 15 to 20 cm long pinnate leaves. The delicate blue inflorescences smell light and appear in high and late summer. The fruits, about 0.5 cm large berries taste spicy. Today, the chaste tree, which is also called Monk-Pepper in English, is used in homeopathy for depression and nerve dysfunction. The plant is found from southern Europe to northern India and loves hot and sunny locations. It is especially popular with butterflies.
