Description

The real mimosa – also called “Touch me not” – is famous for its ability to react with leaf movements when touched. First the bright green pinnate leaves fold up and then the petioles lower. Here, the touch creates a signal that continues at 1-10 cm per second, depending on the strength of the stimulus and the temperature. After 20 minutes the plant stands up again. Here it grows to a height of around 40 to 60 cm, produces delicate purple-pink flowers after 4 months and lasts for around 3 years as a pot plant. The plant often also develops seed pods that you can harvest and use for new sowing. In warmer areas, the mimosa can be grown into a small, woody tree.
