The tamarind, also known as Indian date tree, is a perfect pot or tub plant. Easy to care for, the plant can be raised as a small tree or shrub. In the tropics, the tamarind is not only a useful plant but also a popular park tree. The flowers are light-yellow with red markings, intensely fragrant. The sticky pulp inside the pods is used for sauces. It tastes slightly sour and fruitly sweet at the same time. Combined with prawns, the sauce is a culinary highlight. The bright green leaves consisting of 10-20 pinnate compound leaves are nicely looking as well.
