The timeless plant from tropical Asia has accompanied us for decades as a pot and container plant in staircases and living rooms. Most of the time, she stood in a corner and grew to herself until she reached the ceiling. Often it was a pretty bleak sight. But now this rubber tree, the Ficus elastica, conquers many rooms again and even as a container plant it is experiencing a real boom. Even in southern Europe it grows out planted in many front gardens. In old age, the mighty rubber tree shows long aerial roots and huge tree roots.
