‘Black Russian’. This strong and quite tall growing (150-180cm) plant produces deep, dark red to chocolate brown fruits. From a visual point, it is an absolute highlight among tomato plants. Because of its fruit colour, it is also often called chocolate tomato. Even the firm flesh of the 120- 200 grams heavy fruits is dark-coloured on the margins. The taste is intensive and one may describe it as “quaffable” to spicy. These tomatoes taste excellent on mozarella slices (also for visual reasons). It is also popular to make delicious sauces from these tomatoes. The long harvesting period lasts from July until the end of October. The fruits ripen until shortly before the first frost sets in.
