Description

Helichrysum italicum is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It is sometimes called the curry plant because of the strong fragrance of its leaves. It grows on dry, rocky or sandy ground around the Mediterranean. The silvery-green leaves of the curry plant (Helichrysum italicum) have an intense curry aroma and are ideal for stir-fried dishes or stews. The yellow flowers appear from July to September and have a mild honey scent – they are edible and are versatile in use. The essential oil derived of these yellow blossoms is prized for its cosmetic use.

Sowing Advice

The seeds germinate well at 15°-22°C. First seedlings appear after about 2-3 weeks. Good herb soil or also cultivation soil is suitable as sowing ground. Outdoor sowing is possible from April once the danger of frost has passed.
