Description

It shines from afar – the spice fennel with its yellow and fragrant inflorescence, which appears in the 2nd year from June to the end of August. The flowers are particularly popular with bees and insects. The plant, which also grows wild on dry and stony soils in the south and in the Mediterranean region, was already cultivated 2000 years ago. It reaches a height of 60-180 cm and usually thrives two years. This fennel does not form a tuber, but rather the fragrant seeds and flowers that are harvested here. The warmer the location, the more fragrant the aromatic seeds.

Sowing Advice

Growing from seeds is quick and easy. You can prefer to sow the seeds indoors at 15 ° – 20 ° C in spring, or sow them outdoors from the end of May directly in pots, tubs and beds. The germination time is between 15-20 days. The seeds only need to be lightly covered and the soil should be kept evenly moist. We recommend leaving a distance of 25-50 cm between the plants.
